It's that time of year....

where I start thinking about gardens. Last year, I didn't have a lot of sun light in my little tiny apartment. Due to that, none of my plants really grew, outside or inside. But this year, I have a small yard!!!!

So of course, I'm planning my herb garden. I really want to try something like this:

With the following herbs:
  • Basil
  • Mint varieties (Peppermint, chocolate mint, grapefruit mint)
  • Oregano
  • Parsley
  • Cilantro
  • Dill
  • Chives
Of course, I also want to make my flower pots look pretty. These pictures are from a blog called The Cottage Garden

I love how pretty these look.

And something like this with my son's little feet prints!!!!

There are so many things I want to try. What about you?

Craft time

I miss my knitting time. I have tried to spend some time each night to knit/work on some projects. I would love to be able to make a good supply of hats for my son before the next winter hits. I just have to figure out what size head he will have. I also want to make mittens for my husband and maybe something for me.

For me..What do you all think?

For my son

For my husband...I would add a flip top  cover.

My lemon tree died

I have sad, somber news. My beautiful, wonderful lemon tree died. I don't know why? I think I may have been over watering it, but the leaves dried up, so  maybe it got burned. I just don't know. But, I think maybe, part of it is because of all the time we had spent away from home this month and then how I couldn't really do anything, so it wasn't properly taken care of.

Thankfully, my husband has decided that we can get a new one, plus one. That's right two trees in the house. We are going to get our usual (i.e my favorite and am so sad that she died)

The Variegated Pink Lemon tree.

As for the other tree we will get, I'm leaving that one up to my husband. I'm thinking he might pick a clementine tree. But who knows.

Pinterest and Gardens? Again!

Yup- sorry all but I just can't help but day dream about the day when my black thumb turns green. Thankfully Pinterest has a ton of ideas for me to use and store away for when that happens.

Fairy Gardens and Poppy

I have wonderful, wonderful news.

Poppy (My beautiful lemon tree) has new leaves and new branches!  I will post pictures later when I'm able to get them off of my phone. It is horrible not having a working camera. I may post about ones that I'm looking at and would like to buy. But back to my tree. Poppy has new branches and leaves and that means only on thing, in 2 years Poppy will be producing lemons. And I cannot wait to use those lemons!!!

and  now on to wonderful fairy gardens.  I love fairy gardens. I have some pins on pinterest that I cannot wait to do:

I love the mini gardens and fairy houses in this pin.

The log house is pretty cute.

and of course my mom made some fairy houses. Here are her pictures:

Don't you just love them? I know I do.

I miss you

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful Moms out there. You do so much for your kids and we are so grateful for you.

Day 10, Friday: Most embarrassing moment (s). Spill.

My most embarrassing moments. Let's see I have a few that I consider very embarrassing- there could be the time I was reading in Church, a story out of the book of Job (pronounced J-OO-B) and I said Job. Or the time that I tripped during a dance performance, or the time that I read untie as unite. No, I think the most embarrassing one was when I was alter serving. I was in 4th grade and super excited to be alter serving, but sadly during the middle of the Our Father, I opened my mouth to say the prayer and I puked. In front of everyone, Father and God.

Day 11, Saturday: Sell yourself in 10 words or less

Why does this sound like an interview question? Oh wait because it is! At least for those working with students/ Kids. I know I have been asked this question many times (only it's 3 words or 5 words) Anyways here you go:

Enthusiastic
Empathetic
Energetic
Caring
Imaginative
Loving

Playful
Honest
Thoughtful
Out-side of the box

Since I was able to rattle them off in less than 3 minutes I think I have had to answer this question too many times.

Day 12, Sunday:
What do you miss? (a person, a thing, a place, a time of your life...)

Can I change this to who do I miss. I miss my best friend, Becky! We've been friends since we were 7. Right now she is in New Orleans for school.

(That's my sister,me, and Becky at my Dad's Wedding)

(graduation party)

I miss my old pets. Nana- my dog. She was wonderful, Tizzy- my cat, although she was fat she was great. Espresso, Sunset, Pitty-Pat and Muffins- all the other cats we had.

I Miss my Grandma. I miss her so much that I can't stand it. I wanted her at my wedding, I wanted to be able to call her up and talk to her. We would talk about everything and anything. Knitting, the pets, school, the Yankees... just anything and everything. We would talk every Sunday for at least an hour as well as on Wednesdays. When she passed away...I...I was never able to say goodbye and I..just...I miss her so much.

Poppy is dying :(

So I have a lemon tree.

(The picture will take you to the link)

But, sadly  I noticed things on it. Turns out, it had bugs and those pesky little bugs, are killing it.

oh hell to the no

So my wonderful husband is calling the nursery where we got the tree to see what we can do. I know the bugs didn't come from us, since  it's been winter, there is snow, the tree has been inside, and the bugs are not native to my state.

Britney Spears OMG

I really hope that it all can work out in our favor, because Poppy (that's my tree's name) has no leaves and was expensive.

Plants

Last night my husband and I went shopping for seeds. We have started our herb garden. I promise I will post a  picture of what it looks like when the herbs are in full bloom.

We found the sunniest window and set up a small shelf right under it. We planted all of our seeds adn then we put saran wrap on top of the plants. We did that to keep the water in and to make sure that warmth stayed with the plants.  Now we just have to let the sun do it's business.

We also got some flowers to and planted them in some containers. I'm hoping that by container gardening, I'm going to be able to learn how to have a green thumb. To help with that, my husband and I brought a book from Better Homes and Gardens. It's all about growing herbs and veggies.

Better Homes & Gardens Vegetable, Fruit & Herb Gardening

After reading through the book, I realized I have a lot to learn, but I don't mind learning as a go. I have also decided that I am going to grow an Apricot tree in a container in my apartment! Then, when it produces fruit, I can give it to my mom (who loves apricots) and I can make apricot jam (which is my mom's favorite jam).

The herbs we planted are:
  • Lemon Basil
  • Sweet basil
  • Cilantro
  • Mint
  • Oregano
  • Parsley
  • Dill
  • Chives
  • Chamomile
We also planted:
  • Forget-me-nots
  • Shasta Daisy
  • Sweet Peppers
  • Spicy peppers
As well as we still have our garlic and scallions growing.

Pinterest Sunday-Gardens

It's January and it's snowing and freezing rain- which technically is hail, so there is snow and hail outside. Not to mention ice. The sidewalks, roads, trees, grass, everything is covered with ice. ICE! Ugh. Yet, the only thing I can think of are plants. Green leafy plants. Which cleanse the air, and make everything smell fresh and...green.   I created a new board all about gardens. and figure I should post just a few things I want to try.

use a lemon, orange or a grapefruit to start your seedlings. plant the entire thing in the ground and the peels will compost directly into the soil to nourish the plants as they grow.

Indoor herb garden

An herb garden inside- that is one thing that I want. In fact I think I may try something like this
hanging herb garden for kitchen
 under a window.

And just becasue one day I will be out of an apartment and have space

Rock garden water feature -calm and alive at the same time

A rock garden and
The Log House Fairy Home

A fairy house

I can't wait until the sun comes out more. I guess until then, I can keep doing my deep cleanings on week ends and organizing the apartment until I can have it set to help grow plants.
