Plants

Last night my husband and I went shopping for seeds. We have started our herb garden. I promise I will post a  picture of what it looks like when the herbs are in full bloom.

We found the sunniest window and set up a small shelf right under it. We planted all of our seeds adn then we put saran wrap on top of the plants. We did that to keep the water in and to make sure that warmth stayed with the plants.  Now we just have to let the sun do it's business.

We also got some flowers to and planted them in some containers. I'm hoping that by container gardening, I'm going to be able to learn how to have a green thumb. To help with that, my husband and I brought a book from Better Homes and Gardens. It's all about growing herbs and veggies.

Better Homes & Gardens Vegetable, Fruit & Herb Gardening

After reading through the book, I realized I have a lot to learn, but I don't mind learning as a go. I have also decided that I am going to grow an Apricot tree in a container in my apartment! Then, when it produces fruit, I can give it to my mom (who loves apricots) and I can make apricot jam (which is my mom's favorite jam).

The herbs we planted are:
  • Lemon Basil
  • Sweet basil
  • Cilantro
  • Mint
  • Oregano
  • Parsley
  • Dill
  • Chives
  • Chamomile
We also planted:
  • Forget-me-nots
  • Shasta Daisy
  • Sweet Peppers
  • Spicy peppers
As well as we still have our garlic and scallions growing.

Valentine's day gift

Since I know my husband won't be seeing this until AFTER I give him his gift, I'm going to post what I made for him on here.  Using the pin that I posted yesterday (and for a few other days) I made a

DATE NIGHT PASSPORT!

I  made a list of local restaurants  some we've been to  and others we haven't even touched. And some I didn't know existed.  After that I made a list of many different date night ideas ranging from free to super expensive. ($$$)

Finally I put the book together and made my money code.

I hope he likes it.

Oh How Pinteresting Wednesday - cookies

Guess what day it is...

Today I want to share some just a few pins, from all over my boards.

As you all know I love to bake. With Jeff being on his diet and with me doing it with him, I haven't been able to bake as much as I would like :( but I can pin many different recipes to try, starting with a Death by Chocolate Chip Cookie

and the entire first Chapter of Harry Potter under the stairs. AWESOME for a fan like me.

Lastly, today is Ash Wednesday  the start of Lent. I encourage you to do what ever you feel is best to get closer to what ever God or higher power you believe in. For me, being a Catholic, I will be fasting today and going to church. I will wear my ashes proud and I want all my other Catholics to wear their ashes proud.

Knitted mittens

This winter I have been working on making mittens for both me and my husband. Below are the final as I like to call them Hobo mittens since the top can be flopped over to use be able to use the fingers.

With my husbands mittens I did a the two most basic stitches- knitting and purling. I started by  knitting and purling, then I went to basic knitting in the row. I measured my husband's hands and knitted to the length I needed before I casted off and made the top flap and the thumb. For his mittens I added a dash of color with the green button to keep the flap down.

My mittens were a bit more complicated. I made some small cables and other designs in them, as well as making sure to use the basic knit and purl on them. I also added a lining from an old t-shirt for some extra warmth.

Lastly, a I finally I have picture up for my baby blanket design I made back in October.

Just click the picture and it will take you to the blog post.

Let's talk...board games

I work with kids and I love it. Being able to talk to kids and help them with what ever is bothering them, as well as teach...is wonderful. It's what I want to do with my life. I seriously cannot wait for the day when I have my own classroom.  Until then, I will continue working with children what ever way I can.

I'm lucky that I work with awesome kids. One of the most awesome things about them is they LOVE to play board games.  Every morning I've been able to play Life, Sorry, Guess Who and Candy Land. Which of course makes me think.... What is your favorite board game and why is it your favorite?
My favorite is

(Yes, I know it's not a board game per say, but it's super fun)

Date night

I didn't post a let's talk Friday's because I was busy with work and then date night. Which got me thinking...what do you like to do for date night? My husband and I try to switch things up so it's not the same old boring routine.  Last night we went out to dinner and then got dessert and had cake in bed.  A few weeks ago I took him to High Rollers (he didn't do to well) and we skated around the rink.  Sometimes we will watch movie and eat popcorn.

Even if we do something that costs no money or is very cheap, we are doing it together and doing it to keep the romance alive, because that is the important thing about life.  Working on keeping the relationships you have built going.

So, below in the comment section, I want you all to share some fun dates ideas that you have. They could be cheap, or expensive, but the point is, they should keep the relationship alive.

Ciao, and enjoy Date nights.
