Winston Boy

I haven't talked about Winston in a while. For those of you who haven't been with me from the beginning, Winston is my puppy. His age ticker is on the side of my blog.I like knowing how old my little boy is. Some funny things he does is he like to be under the blankets. He will burry himself underneath a pile of blankets so it looks like what it is a pile of blankets. Nothing of him will be showing. When he wants to come out, he will poke his nose out, sniff, look around and crawl out. He does that a few times  until he comes out.

That's my Winston talk for today.

Wedding Differences

I was recently married. It was the happiest day of my life. When I look back at my wedding day, I think of all the wonderful people who showed, everyone who helped out and all the great traditions that my husband and I did.
We did some classics including but not limited to:

  • Father Daughter Dance/ Mother Son Dance- these are seen at most weddings, however, I have been to weddings where I did not see these. For what ever reason the bride and groom chose not to do this is up to them.
  •  Cutting the cake and stuffing it into my husband's mouth/face- this one is now a bit on the controversial side of wedding traditions. Why you might ask? Think about how many times you feed someone in a given day...not much I bet, unless you are in contact with those who cannot feed themselves.  Now think about how you would feel if you were being fed too and someone ended up putting the food in your face? I bet it wouldn't feel to good. Some tux companies don't like it because frosting get's on the tux. So, if you get married, would you pick this tradition?
  • Not having the groom see the bride before the ceremony- This is something that now, really depends on the perrson. Some people like to do first looks, and in fact, in certain areas of the country that is now considered proper (so you don't have what is called a Catholic Gap- a gap between the ceremony and the cocktail hour) other don't. I had a Gap- I do not believe it is right being called a Catholic gap because I have seen other weddings that are not catholic that have a gap between then.
Now for out non-classics.
  • Being Italian we had the traditional Tarntella- it is a folk dance. Some other cultures do not do traditional dance- others do. I know while planning the wedding, I was talking to some people who have never heard of the Tarentella- some were excited, others were asking my why. It's simple, I, my Husband and I were making the wedding ours.
  • Since my Husband in German, and the area we live in is very German we did the dollar dance. (and not everyone is going to look at me in disgust). To explain the dollar dance- it was started years ago to help the bride and groom. Since then it became  a typical dance in the areas where plenty of German, Polish and Such. THE Dance is still used to help the bride and the groom with money- but not as much. Now people do it for fun, and for tradion. I know had we not done this, and only did the Tarentella
  • We also did a 2 hour cocktail hour. Yes, only 2 hours, again following the norm for the place we live. Hence- does that break any wedding rules? I don't think so, because, that is what is socially acceptable in this area. In fact, we surprised out guest by having it be more than 1 hour. Yes, this area, does 1 hour of free drinks, then you pay for the rest, but water and soda are free the entire night.
So what traditions do you think may be deemed classic or non classic for your area? Should you do them or not? It's up to you on how you want to follow wedding etiquette. Honestly, some stuff I followed, other I say "No Way, let me do what I think my guests will know"
For your wedding day, pick what your heart desires and go with it. Best of luck!

Let's talk Friday

Today I want to talk about who you judge- this is going to be nice and short Tomorrow ther will be a nice long post about wedding differences- what is deemed appropriate and what isn't. I was going to use that as my Let's Talk, but really, I figured due to the length I moved it to tomorrow just for fun.
So for judging.
I Judge those who...use improper grammar. There are differnce in when to use "well", "good", "can", "may", and all the there's.
I judge those who don't know how to work. Honestly, a little hard work is good for the soul.
U judge those who don't know how to take care of kids- those who yell at kids with out having a reason too.
I judge those who can pay to go out  Downtown every night, but can't pay their own bills.
I judge those who......
Who do you judge?

Muffins

For those of you who don't know, I love to cook and bake. One thing I know I make pretty well (if I'm allowed to brag) are Muffins and Cupcakes. I do really well with the muffins that have fruit inside. So, I figured I would share some of my tips I guess.
1. When making muffins with fruit-if they are berries (strawberries, blueberries and such) I usually take 1/4 teaspoon of sugar and sprinkle it over the berries.
2. If making banana's I tend to use the ones that look all brown and ucky- they seem to have the best flavor for baking.
3. When I take them out of the oven, I let them sit in the pan for a few minutes. I then remove them from a pan and set them on racks but I cover them with a clothe for like 2 minutes
Now for cupcakes:
1. You can make them taste better if you substitute apple sauce for butter- they are also much healthier.
2. If you want fluffy ones- I like to mix half butter and half Crisco (it's not as healthy, but makes them very fluffy)
3. Shift the flour more than once.
4. For frosting, not only does your materials need to be cold- but your cupcakes should be cold too. I always put my cupcakes or cakes in the freezer for 5 to 10 minute before I frost.

Well, that's all I have for tonight.

Let's talk Friday (on Saturday)

Hey- I'm so sorry I'm late with this post. My husband had a friend turn 21 yesterday- so we celebrated with him. My Husband celebrated the night before too, but I had to work on Friday, so I didn't go out.
My topic for today is cheating.
Yes, cheating- I know it is a big topic, and there are lots of things to cover with it- so this may take a few Fridays.
We will start with flirting. People don't cal flirting cheating. But sometimes, I feel it can be considered cheating. Sometimes, you can flirt with out realizing it and other people do.
Now the question is where does flirting go from something simple are harmless to cheating?
We will leave it at this for right now- I want to hear your thoughts on this.

Post wedding details.

So since I started this  before the wedding there were some details that I never talked about. So let's begin with the cake:

Our cake was made by a local bakery in West Salem. The process for finding a cake was rough- I didn't want the baker to have to travel too far, but I don't want to pay and arm and a leg. I also noticed that a lot of places were not returning my calls. So I then decided to go with who ever returned my calls and was in my budget first. (it worked out great for the photographer and the cake) . The cake tasting was great- and the cake tasted really good from what I heard (I was not able to eat mine, as you may know a bride doesn't get to eat much). If you eve want to try some yummy food, I would suggest my bakery  Linda's Bakery in West Salem.

The design was done by me. I drew out what I wanted with colored pencil and gave it to the baker. She then  (using the flowers, cake topper and ribbon I got) made the cake perfect.
All in all, the cake was beautiful.

My favorite picture of the cake

Reorganizing

My wonderful husband and I are doing a complete reorganization of the apartment. YAY for reorganizing. Not, it is a lot of work. So far all the heavy, big stuff has been moved, but now it's down to all the little things. Those are the worst. If you combine that with going through closets and such to see what to get rid of...we are now on 24+ hours of reorganization. So to go over married life- I will state- we have been trying some new wines well we do this. We have moved:
1. The T.V from the living room to now the office (the second bed room). We have set that room up with the twin bed to be more like a couch- we have the T.V in there, space for exercising and the desk with the computer and the printer.
2. We have set up almost all the wedding stuff- put away gifts and now will finally be able to finish all the Thank You cards. Big accomplishment.
3. We moved the closets around- got my Jeff ( my husband) a dresser and found a spot for my gown. My beautiful wedding gown is now sitting in the closet in the office.
4. We moved the stuff in the kitchen around.
5. We have taken one trip with a full car to Goodwill and are well on our way to a second trip.

So now folks, all we need to make this complete is a small couch/love seat/futon. Does anyone know a where we can find a nice and cheap one? After that...a new mattress.
That is all for now. I've got to get back to my reorganizing.

Pinteresting Sundays

Today for my Pinteresting Sundays I am going to share my ideas on just some random things to know. All of the pictures below came from my Good To Know  Board.
We'll start with things I have tried:
Flavored water for summer- or any time- I love Flavored water
Flavored Water- I love water with some flavor in it. To me it is the best way to drink water.
BEAUTY TIP: Put a tiny bit of toothpaste into a small cup, mix in one teaspoon baking soda and half a teaspoon water. Thoroughly mix then brush your teeth for two minutes. Remember to do it once a week until you have reached the results you want. Once your teeth are good and white, limit yourself to using the whitening treatment once every month or two.
To make your teeth nice and white- It really does work a bit, I like it.
Freezing ice balloons for coolers at parties-very festive and much less drippy than ice! Genius!
Using balloons as ice- it works well, but the balloons do give off water- I almost think it is more than ice.

Now stuff to try:
31 Days to Learning Photoshop Basics for Bloggers
I feel that this would be great to try and see what I can do to my blog

sugar scrubs
Sugar Scrubs- I think these would make great gifts come winter time

Hidden tricks to get your house sparkling in record time. I think every Pinterest trick is listed here!
Cleaning tips- I need to find new ones.

Well- that's all I got for today- I now must get back to my reorganizing of the apartment. One of these days I will get it back from all my wedding stuff.

Let's Talk Fridays

Today I would like to talk about manners. When did people begin to lose their manners and when did society start to be okay with it?
Take this example: You are at work and a majority of the co-workers are talking about a party that was thrown by the other co-worker. You over hear about all of this, but you weren't invited to the party.
Where is the etiquette there?
Or this example: You are driving and trying to find a parking spot- you have your blinker on, but some other rude person sweeps in and takes it from you.
Or lastly this: You are carrying a bunch of shopping bags and struggling with the door, just as some other people walk by empty handed and don't help you.

So my question is what ever happened to Manners? Today, boys and girls do not say please, or thank you- instead I notice they tend to demand things. "I want that now" or "Get me that" are common words heard at your local Walmart.  People don't hold doors open, or ask if someone wants help. Mainly, the world seems obsessed with their technology- whether it be the latest iphone or tablet. Where does this manner-less world lead us to?
For that, I really would love some one to answer.

The heat

Raise your hand if it is super duper hot out side............
Yup that's what I thought. It is very hot outside. Today with the heat index it is 105- at 2pm. Ugh. In fact, it is so hot outside, that even Winston, my lovable pup, doesn't want to go out side. And there is no relief for us in the future. The next week, my state and many others are in a heat wave until Friday. Yeah right- this entire summer- every week there has been a heat wave. I feel like there is no end in sight. :(
